CIWM (WAMITAB) Level 5 Healthcare Waste Manager Qualifications

NHS England has committed to being a Net Zero Carbon Healthcare provider by 2040. To this end, NHS England has developed a 10-year Clinical Waste Strategy for the NHS, which calls for organisations to have appropriately trained management resource.

Aimed specifically for NHS Waste Managers or equivalent roles and endorsed by NHS England’s 10-year Clinical Waste Strategy, this qualification is designed to meet the evolving demands of waste management in healthcare, covering safe and sustainable practices while addressing legislative requirements and emerging industry trends.

Achievement of this qualification demonstrates competence by the learner to manage healthcare waste management effectively, ensuring that key stakeholders receive a reliable service delivered to a high standard.

Level 5 Healthcare Waste Manager – Facilities Qualification

This qualification is ideal for experienced people managing healthcare waste management operations that require evidence of their competence.

The advantage of this qualification is that you do not require access to a waste site.

There are 20 units to be completed covering areas such as:

  • Comply with waste management legislation
  • Develop healthcare waste management policies
  • Manage healthcare waste safely and effectively
  • Manage resources
  • Manage contract procurement
  • Conduct a waste management audit
  • Implement a waste minimisation programme

Please note, this qualification is not accepted to cover permitted site requirements.
